Members of Justice for Robin Bain (JFRB) and Counterspin are organizing a series of fund raisers for later this year or early next year, to raise funds in order to defend the improper and vexatious defamation
claims made against members of the group by Joe Karam. All the comments made by JFRB members that Karam maintains are defamatory except for one, refer to his involvement in the Bain case, a very public case, for which Karam actively sought publicity and actively committed his own ideas into widespread publication. The Bain case involved massive expenditure of taxpayer money, execution of public policy in the Justice sector and other activities related to the community that affect us all. In this respect comments made by JFRB members involve the New Zealand political community and we feel that we are entitled to make them. Further to that we are defending these allegatations on the basis of Truth of the publication as a whole: s 8(2)(b) Defamation Act 1992. We are confident that there is solid basis of truth overall in the things that have been said.
The Counterspin Freedom of Expression Tour will consist of at least three fund raising events held in different locations around the country involving various forms of entertainment including music.
Update: The focus of the tour is now changing to freedom of speech and the new nominal name is Counterspin: Freedom of Expression Tour.
